In most sites, it is a fact that fall protection and safety should be the topmost priority. There are several reports of accidents due to falls in almost every construction site, as several workers would be working in elevated heights during building and bridge construction. In the course of the years, falls are considered to be the number one cause of deaths in construction sites. 

In order for people to understand the importance and the methods to prevent fall protection, it is important that they evaluate the correct methods of height access in several construction companies. Most workers, especially the amateur ones, think that climbing on places where the work needs to be done is as simple as climbing trees and roofs. They forget that trees and roofs do not have falling debris, which can be the cause of most fall accidents. Also, they do not tend to follow all safety precautions, since they think that they have enough capacity to do the job. Because of this, it becomes hard for the workers to stay out of danger as much as they should. 

The first thing to do when people are just starting the work is to clear their workspaces of debris and other equipments that aren’t necessary. Cleaning the workplace is actually an essential of fall protection, and will contribute greatly to reduce the chances and risks for accidents. This is because most of the time, people forget about these things lying around since they are too preoccupied with the work at hand. They would most likely be careless with their movements, which may cause them to trip over these materials resulting to fall accidents. In order to avoid this, it is necessary that they should adopt the “clean and clear” scheme every time they start working. Not only will this ensure that no one trips from these materials, it will also ensure that there’d be minimal distractions during work operations. 

More than that, it is important that the workers not be too confident or too cocky to not wear protective gears and equipments. There are workers who refuse to follow the gear safety guidelines because they think that the construction work is below them. They would refused to heed to the rules, and think that they do not need to wear these clothes “for just a minute” of going inside the buildings. However, many things can happen in just a minute. Accidents are called accidents because they are unexpected and cannot be avoided. In even just a minute, there is a chance for debris to fall or for workers to trip over the materials. As prevention is better than cure, so is heeding to the dress code important for fall protection. 

Other requirements for fall protection would be the installation of guardrails or leading edges to give people something to grip on when they are standing on high edges and elevated surfaces. Supervisors and clients of construction companies would often visit the construction sites to see the progress of the project. Most of the time, they do not know the way around the construction sites, so they will need something that they can hold on to as they are toured around the area. This way, fall protection is executed at its best.
